Its bottle is inspired by a line of Boucheron's jewelry called Exquises Confidences. WWD mentioned that "B is the most expensive fragrance in Boucheron's scent portfolio, according to Marc Rey, ceo of YSL Beauté U.S.A. In the U.S., the 50-ml. eau de parfum spray will cost $110; the 100-ml. edp spray, $155; the 2-liter edp splash, $4,000; the 15-ml. perfume spray, $250; the 200-ml. bath and shower gel, $50, and the 200-ml. body cream, $90." Reprint and Fragrance Education: Oils and Soy Candles

Understanding Fragrance Oils and Essential Oils and Their Application in Soy Candles

By Mike Ugulini

While you may see the terms used interchangeably, there are differences between fragrance oils and essential oils. Both types of oils produce wonderfully aromatic candles and offer candle buyers much variety when it comes to choosing a candle scent. However, these two types of oils are unique unto themselves so it's good to know the characteristics of each.

Fragrance oils are perfume oils. While some fragrance oil scents may contain all-natural oils, they are primarily synthetic in composition. Production of a synthetic scent comes about when chemists study a plant's components and then reproduces those components artificially.

What's great about fragrance oils is the endless variety of scents that result. Experimentation with different synthetic combinations yields many fine scents and scent combinations. Fragrance oils are great for producing pleasing berry and fruit scents, as these scents are not always obtainable naturally as essential oils. Fragrance oils are also long lasting and affordably priced.

Essential oils are natural chemicals that are the true essence of a plant. They are not oil-like as we often think of oil. They do not have a sticky, oily feel to them and are actually clearer in appearance. Some essential oils do have color to them. They come from the leaves, flowers, seeds, resin, stems, roots, and bark of botanicals. Essential oils are highly concentrated oils and are popular in aromatherapy. Extraction of essential oils from botanical sources takes place by one of four methods:

  • Steam distillation, which uses heat to draw out essential oils; this is the most common method used today.

  • Cold press extraction: This method removes oils from the skins of fruits without the damage heat can sometimes do.

  • Chemical solvent extraction: This method uses solvents such as alcohol to extract harder to get essential oils.

  • Effleurage method: This method involves odorless fats or oils absorbing the perfume of fresh flowers.

Essential oils and fragrance oils are similar in that they both provide wonderful scents for soy candles. Scent blends may contain some natural essential oil elements in combination with synthetic elements. Again, fragrance oils offer the opportunity to make many more scent types and combinations than pure essential oils.

My Shopping Field Trip: DFS Duty Free Galleria @

The international terminal at the San Francisco International Airport is more than a pass through for passengers -- it is an international shopping destination. About a week ago, I had an opportunity to visit the main store in this terminal, DFS Duty Free Galleria. My plane was leaving in about two hours so I decided to kill some time by exploring this shop. I couldn't believe what was available in there. Nearly all of the items in the store were high-end products. It sold fine wines from the top wineries in California, high quality spirits from around the world and clothing and accessories from top designers, such as Burberry and Fendi.

As The Fragrance Man, the most important items in DFS were its fragrances. And, it had a very large selection of prestige scents. Some notable fragrances that were sold there were Flowerbomb by Viktor and Rolf, Gucci by Gucci and Polo by Ralph Lauren.

Unfortunately, there is one major drawback shopping at DFS; you cannot purchase anything there unless you're traveling to an international destination. I learned this from experience. I was about to buy a bottle of port, and the sales clerk told me no. I was very sad.

The next time you are traveling to a foreign country or coming back from your international spot, you must take the time to visit DFS Duty Free stores. I'm sure you will enjoy the shopping experience there.

DFS Galleria Stores are located in 14 countries. There are only five shops located in the U.S.: LAX, Hollywood, San Francisco International Airport, San Jose International Airport, and JFK International Airport in New York City. Have fun shopping!!

Reprint and Fragrance Education: Men's Fragrances

Men's Fragrance Ideal

By Catherine Tyler

Men's fragrance is always difficult to choose as there are so many selections available for them. Some people may think that men's stuff are rare and difficult to find the most suitable one, especially for perfume or fragrance which seem to belongs to women favourite. Can anybody clarify what the "fragrance" means? This generally includes any type of perfume or liquid substance which will be used to improve body scent. These are, for example, aftershave, cologne, perfume etc.

Due to the variety of fragrance selections, it is often seen that looking for an ideal one for you may not be an easy job. Once you learn more about the characteristics of each type of fragrance and able to understand your characteristics and needs, then you can start looking for your favourite fragrance.

However, the most important thing may be to get to know more about each type of fragrance. You have to identify about which type you will use. The usage may be on daily basis or occasionally. One of the most popular and well known men's fragrances is cologne. This type is very much similar to perfume, which normally used by women. The obvious difference may be that men's fragrance is much more strong and pricey than women's. We consider that cologne may not have long lasting effect as perfume and is normally has mild degree in scent. Cologne is preferably designed for men and used in more quantity. The cologne can be applied to some parts of skin to make it attractive but perfume has much stronger scent so we just use few drops.

These two types of fragrances can be used as substitution of each other but women mostly use perfume rather than these two. As today, there are many types of perfume for men, but many of them have turned out to be interested in using perfume. Also, the trend of using cologne still widely exists. The other type of fragrance for men is an aftershave. It is what can be used when a gentleman finish shaving by applying on the area that has been shaved. Even though aftershave may not be the fragrances that directly design for use as a fragrance, but it is used to maintain moisture and condition of the skin and this is the main purpose of aftershave.

However, aftershave is considered as one of the types of men's fragrance as it provides good and attractive scent and could be very long lasting. Therefore, many of aftershave manufacturers try to make aftershave to be more than what is used for maintaining skin condition, by adding scent into the liquid. So now aftershave is one of the most popular fragrances for men because they do not have to buy additional perfume or cologne but just use quality aftershave. In all, no matter which type of men's fragrance that you are using or planning to have one. It is necessary to know the difference of each type of them in order to choose the type that most fit to you.

I'm Back

I'm finally back from my vacation. Well, it wasn't a real vacation; I still had to work my "9-5" job. Unfortunately, my salary for maintaining and writing for fragranceman.com is zero. Hopefully, one day this will change. My time off from blogging did give me the opportunity to think about the future of this blog and my overall future in the fragrance industry. I think both of these futures will be very bright. Lastly, thank you all for reading and viewing fragranceman.com during my vacation.

Ciao,

The Fragrance Man
